FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONDE NAST TO CEASE PUBLICATION OF DOMINO

New York, NY, January 28, 2009 -- Domino magazine will cease publication, it was announced today by Charles H. Townsend, President and CEO of Conde Nast. The final issue will be published in March2009.

"This decision to cease publication of the magazine and its website is driven entirely by the economy," Mr. Townsend said. "Although readership and advertising response was encouraging in the early years, we have concluded that this economic market will not support our business expectations."

More to come.... "

I could just cry. This is just so upsetting. When is this going to end?!?!

I was just corresponding with Marisa over at Stylebeat Blog about her wonderful blog, and learned about this. There were rumors in the wind, but it's now official. I am sure Marisa, former style editor for House Beautiful and O at Home will have more info before I do ....so stop on over for the latest here.

I wanted to tell you all about Marisa's beautiful blog...and how she will probably have all the latest and greatest news form NYC....but for now, I think I have to go find a tissue.

Goodbye Domino! You will be missed.

I will leave you with some photos that Marisa took at the latest Gift Show in NYC:

You'll just have to visit Stylebeat for all of the information.

My Dining Table.

Dining tables......there are so many options. There are round ones, rectangular, racetrack. There are wood tables, and glass topped and stone topped tables, and lacquered tables. There those that seat two, four, ten...and way beyond. There is the pedestal table and the four legged table. And don't get me started on the styles or periods.

It can be quite a daunting task to find just the right thing for oneself. One must consider the size and shape of the room, and how many guests are typically around the table. Is one's lifestyle casual? Formal? And, very importantly, what can one afford? These are all of the practical considerations. But then there are the preferential considerations. What does one "like"?

I have been on the hunt for a Dining Room table for my family for a few years now. My criteria: it has to be round, or nearly so; it must seat up to 10; it can't be too formal; I prefer wood because it is more forgiving and I like the warmth; and I would love to have something unique. I can go contemporary with an antique chair or antique with a more contemporary chair.

Well...to cut the the chase, I saw this table in Veranda magazine and thought "this is it!" It's perfect! It seats eight, it's wood, it's beautiful and unique. Any sort of chair would look wonderful with it. And one thing that really matters to me: one can comfortably fit crossed legs under the "skirt" of the table. It has these wonderful Palladian arched openings. There are no sharp edges to bump a leg on. Even better: it was designed by Robsjohn-Gibbings.

The down side: it was designed by Robsjohn-Gibbings and is VERY unique. In fact I can't find another to even look at, much less purchase. ( A little help 1st dibs?)This particular table is owned by Dara Caponigro, decorating editor of Domino Magazine. You may have caught it in this new book:

So Dara, if you ever want to talk. If you are planning to move into, say, a bigger place where this table just won't work anymore, could you please......just shoot me an email? I would really appreciate it. I have started a fund. Perhaps by the time I have enough in "the fund", you may have moved on to something new? Just a thought. Call me.

In the Pink: Breast Cancer Awareness Day

In an effort to raise awareness, I have posted some of my favorite magazines who decided that PINK was the perfect color for the cover. I hope you all enjoy, and don't forget to schedule that mammogram appointment or give a gentle reminder to those you love!

A big thanks to Mrs. Blandings for organizing a PINK PARTY for this October 1st, Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Check with the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the National Cancer Foundation for more information about breast cancer. And spread the word!

Design Crush: Peter Dunham

By now you have certainly had the pleasure of pouring over the fantabulous home of Peter Dunham featured in the latest Domino Magazine. (He is definitely in my top ten design crushes at the the moment.) Then I opened my Western Interiors magazine and was excited when I saw another one of his design projects in the same month.

I curled up on my freshly made four poster bed with some Dove chocolate Easter eggs to settle in for a relaxing read with my pile of magazines. The more I looked at the Western Interiors spread, the more I realized I had seen some things before.

Now we all know the Peter has opened a beautiful new shop in LA called Hollywood at Home, so some of the things are from his new line of furniture and fabrics. You can see a couple of his spool chairs in the photo above.

And this pretty nook has pillows made from Peter's Star Burst fabric.

But then I realized there were more than just a few items in common. And the hunt was on. I saw this Ikat rug in Peter's own Dining Room.

Many of the fabrics in this Master Bedroom are from Peter's collection as well: "Fig Leaf" on the pillow and "Indian Chintz" for the window treatments.

Now here is Peter's Living Room. So livable and cozy, but also sophisticated. The African Shield on the back wall had shown up above the fireplace in the top photo as well. Now how do you all feel about this? Personally, I like the fact that Mr. Dunham has been using his home as sort of a revolving showroom of objects that he finds, gets to enjoy for awhile and then passes on for others to treasure. This is the lifestyle of many an antiques dealer. What better way to share your life and passions!

These chairs are another of Mr. Dunham's designs. You may remember them from Jennifer Garners home. And the Ikat rug ended up in the kitchen above.

Here are the spool chairs again. And if you read down, you will see these cork lamps are for sale through the Hollywood at Home website. Please don't forget to take a look at the wonderful things here!

In Peter's Guest House, you can see his Fig Leaf fabric as well as Star Burst on the pillows. His mix of found things really makes his interiors so personal.

Again we see the Indian Chintz fabric used for the draperies in Peter's bedroom, and I found the green glazed bedside lamps for sale on Hollywood at Home.

This carved column pedestal is also available through Hollywood at Home/ 1st dibs.

Here are the items as seen on Hollywood at Home website. I may have to snatch up those pedestals.

These are but a few of the really beautiful fabrics you can find through Hollywood at Home.

Passage to India

A Passage to India is on my list of all time favorite novels. I have always thought of India as the ultimate in exotic, romantic places. Well, it seems I am not the only one. It has become a wonderful collective consciousness frenzy:

Chhatrapat Shivaji Terminus, formerly Victoria Terminus

Elle Decor, October 2007 has featured Mumbai, India in their "elle decor goes to" section. It includes all of the must see, eat, shop, and do that Mumbai has to offer. It seems that everyone who's anyone is traveling here. It is a spectacular article. Here are a few photos to wet your appetite!

The Gateway of India

The Intercontinental Hotel rooftop

House and Garden , October 2007, has showcased Cartier's breathtaking new line of jewelry which takes it's inspiration from jewelry designed for the Princes of India. Jacqueline Karachi, head of Cartier's high end jewelry line has captured the art deco period in the new Inde Mysterieuse Collection:

This spectacular tank watch is vintage circa 1929 and has an emerald watchface. Wouldn't you just do about anything for this watch?! The carved jewels are modeled after fruits and berries and hence are known as Tutti Frutti. This style was most famously created for Daisy Fellowes.

This vintage Cartier Handbag sets off two Tutti Frutti brooches from the new collection.

Tiger ring, platinum, and gold with yellow diamonds and onyx.

Domino's October 2007 issue also has embraced India devoting their entertaining section to a party designed with table settings by Waris Ahluwalia. This India-born, NYC raised designer is behind the House of Waris jewelry collection. Waris makes an appearance in Wes Anderson's new film The Darjeeling Limited. (More on that later!) The India connections just keep getting more and more interesting!

You will have to check out Domino for the scoop on all of the lovlies like these chair back garlands. I'm loving these!

I feel like I am in India just looking at this table!

And when the meal is over, place to relax!

There has been much buzz about the upcoming new film by Wes Anderson: The Darjeeling Limited starring Andrien Brody, Owen Wilson and Jason Schwartzman. An adventure about three brothers who bond during a train trip across India, this film is getting alot of positive press. I'm gonna catch it for the scenery alone!

Catch more fun info about the movie on Brilliant Asylum's blog! For that matter, just catch Brilliant Asylum's blog cuz it's so very cool.

And no post about the beautiful exotic India would be complete without mention of two of my favorite blogs: An Indian Summer and Rang Decor. They are both filled with wonderful images of interiors, furniture, art, hotels, and homes of India. I feel like I am on a mini-vacation every time I visit. Here are a few images from their fantastic blogs:

from An Indian Summer

Both of these photos are from Rang Decor

Have I got you curious? Would you like to hear more? I highly recommend these novels to help take you away to India, if only in your imagination:

Happy travels!
