Kelly! HUE are Back!

OK....a little bad on the pun, I know. But I have a little more info on Kelly Wearstler's new book HUE for you (which I talked about here)! I opened the latest issue of C Magazine and was flipping through when I stopped at this article on Kelly's new home in Hollywood. A little more reading, and I realized the photos are from the new book. If this is a taste of what else is inside, I'm all in.

C Magazine has many more stunning photos of the Hollywood home and a great interview with Ms. Wearstler by C Magazine's Andrea Stanford: all about the book, Kelly's life right now and plans for the future. You might just want to pick up a copy of C.......or HUE.....or both!

It looks like Kelly is at her best in this colorful home: exotic, fun, sophisticated, unexpected and a bit over-the-top. That stairwell is brilliant with it's vibrant art and Greek key railing. The wall covering is by Cannon/Bullock. The Living Room sports a rug by Kelly Wearstler for The Rug Company, and the sphere tables are also by Ms. Kelly for Bergdorf Goodman.

FREE!!!!

Dontcha just love that word? Sometimes there are things that are free that you take just because they are free. It may not be something you really want or need. Like the free mini boxes of cereal that come in the mail. Then there are the free things you seek out, like the free food samples at Costco. You know what I mean. You can make a meal out of those enchilada and potroast samples. Sometimes I wait for there to be a free gift with the "purchase of $30 or more" at the make-up counter. (I have more beach bags and make-up pouches than you can imagine).

But there is another catagory. Things that you would love to have, but they are just not in the budget right now. But you keep looking at them in the magazines wondering if you could maybe swing it.

The Family's Room

Many of you have seen my kitchen remodel project...and if you haven't, you can check it out here, and here....but I hadn't shown the Family Room before, which is adjacent to the kitchen. There was always something or other that I was waiting for, or looking for. And it is still not completely "done". (Is it ever?). I would still like to get some bamboo shades up, and hang a couple of things on the walls.

But I thought...I had cleaned it for that Progressive Dinner Party the other night...and it looked pretty nice....so pictures were in order.

I always say that a room is not your own til you have added something one-of-a-kind to it. Whether it is your Great Aunt's Chinese Porcelain cache pots, or a Garage Sale rattan table, or the Flea Market Art Deco Throw....find something you love that no one else has. Even better if it tells a story. Like the time when you went to France in your 20's and successfully managed to get the two little polka-dotted pitchers home from a Flea Market in Provence wrapped carefully in the socks in your suitcase without breaking them. Or the time when you meticulously ordered a custom rug from Tibet with a wave motif on the edge to remind you of the ocean with a navy blue field color, waited twice the time promised...and then when it comes in you are horrified to see it is forest green. One has to really love a rug to wait all over again for the blue rug to come.

But things come as they come. It is the room we use the most often. We sit and watch movies, do homework, munch on popcorn and cookies, drink wine with friends. It really has all of the important stuff. But I still think to myself what does the room still need? I guess that is why I do what I do.

Restoration Hardware: baby & child

I don't know if you all noticed that Brocade Home, a subsidiary of Restoration Hardware, is no longer taking orders. Perhaps it is because of the launch of this site: Restoration Hardware Baby & Child.

I was looking for a Dining Table and noticed the new logo at the top of RH's website, so decided to check it out. There are quite a few nice things here (like the sweet personalized crown piece above).

The furniture, I would suspect, is the same high quality you would expect from the parent site. This four poster is a really timeless design I think. And the bedding hosts a hive of little bees fit for a little Josephine.

The lamps are great looking and quite a good price. This gourd lamp is $119, plus the shade at $25.

Cute lamp reminiscent of Jaime Young. Painted ceramic, comes in a bunch of colors (as does the gourd lamp), and different shade choices. $69! Plus a shade at $25. This is not a tiny little lamp either. It stands 22" high. (Sometimes with a price like this I double check the size to make sure it is not a mini lamp.)

And there are area rugs and window coverings as well. I thought this woven rug (comes in other colors also) was very nice!

I was very impressed overall. Restoration Hardware has great things that blend in with many different decors, so I was very pleased to discover this site. Hope you will be too. Worth a visit for sure.
